We Aussies love our fashion, and with our feet keen to get in on the act many of our wardrobes are crammed with shoes that rarely, if ever, see the light of day. Many will join the 500,000 tonnes of clothing that we dump into landfill each year!

So why not dig out the shoes that are in good condition but unlikely to grace your feet again, and drop them in a Share My Shoes box at one of Mirvac’s shopping centres? But don’t wait – this year’s Share My Shoes campaign ends on 31 July.

Helping to educate Australia’s disadvantaged kids

The shoes will be sold through the retail stores run by The Smith Family, and this year Mirvac aims to collect 24,000 pairs of shoes. Proceeds from the sales will help The Smith Family support disadvantaged Australian children with their education.

Don’t have any shoes you can spare, or can’t get to a Mirvac shopping centre? Mirvac will donate $1 to The Smith Family for every photo of shoes posted on Facebook or Instagram using @sharemyshoes.

If you happen to miss the opportunity to cull your shoe collection this year, watch out for the return of Share My Shoes next year, and give your pre-loved shoes a new lease on life.
